NGOs Reengage in Election Code Issues

On July 30th, Georgian non-governmental organizations addressed Speaker of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania to consider their suggestions on the rules of composition of the Central Election Commission.

NGOs suggest, that candidates to the Central Election Commission’s membership should be named by the coalitions, which unite 10 or more public organizations and have been registered before December 25, 1997. Aims of their activities must be democratization, human right protection and fair election support. At least one member of a coalition must have an experience of monitoring of general election on the territory of Georgia for two times.

The address has been made by 7 non-governmental organizations. The document has been already reviewed at the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Issues, Rule of Law and Administrative Reforms. As Zurab Adeishvili, Chairman of the Committee, has told “Civil Georgia”, suggestions of the non-governmental organizations are acceptable.
