The Opposition Complained to Diplomats on Violation of their Rights in the Parliament
Representatives of the Parliamentary Opposition met diplomats, accredited in Georgia today. The parliamentarians informed diplomats on violation of their rights in the Parliament. The members of the opposition informed foreign representatives about the address to the President Shevardnadze, under which they would request vetoing of the Law on Local Self-Governance.
Under this law, governors and mayors would be appointed by the President from the members of sakrebulos, elected under majorette system. The Opposition has been strongly against this principle.
Diplomats did not make any comments after the meeting. However, they stated that the processes in the Parliament are internal affairs of Georgia and therefore they would not interfere in them.
