Governmental Crisis Continues
“Zhvania’s wing of the Citizens’ Union demands that the whole executive government resign. The opposition, on the other hand, insists that the Head of the Parliament leave the position”, tells the Resonance. It is still unknown whether the President will share Mr. Zhvania’s suggestion and dismiss the ministers as it happened in 1998. “Ministers appointed afterwards did not appear less corrupted than those preceding them”, the newspaper states.
“Our demand is a result of governmental crisis existing nowadays and uncooperativeness of the governmental economic team… Ministers are divided in groups and lobby conflicts have become common”, members of Zhvania’s wing of the Citizens Union claim.
According to experts, in case the President follows Mr. Zhvania’s recommendations and dismisses the ministers Mr. Zhvania will have a chance to take over the ruling authority. But in case the President does not support the Head of the Parliament that means he will doom him and his group to political misfortune. Statement of the oppositional faction Revival had negative influence on Mr. Zhvania’s political status. The faction officially stated yesterday that the Head of the Parliament should leave the position taken. They said Parliamentary crisis would be put to an end in case he resigns.
The faction Traditionalist does not agree with the idea. Mr. Zhvania’s resigning will actually deepen the parliamentary crisis, members of the faction state. According to the Resonance’s attitude towards the issue, it does not want either that Mr. Zhvania resigned.
One part of the Citizens’ Union outlined an open letter alike that of Mr. Zhvania’s. In case the letter is not signed by over 100 deputies Zhvania’s power will be put under question, the Akhali Taoba presumes. No more than 40 MPs have signed the letter by now.
According to the lobby interviews, radical changes are expected in the Parliament. The Press is informing about probable movement of Zhvania’s team to the opposition. It is said that the Citizens’ Union might split in two factions. Vice Chairman of the Parliament Gigi Tsereteli, also deputies Zaza Sioridze, Nino Burjanadze, Rezo Adamia and others will represent one of the factions. Koba Davitashvili will lead the other one. The Akhali Taoba calls it Saakashvili’s faction. Deputies Elene Tevdoradze, Kote Kemularia, Vasil Maghlaperidze, Zurab Adeishvili, and Vano Merabishvili will be its members. Approximately 15 MPs will be united in it.
