2002 Draft Budget to Be Rejected

(Tbilisi, January 16, Civil Georgia) – Government is ready to increase revenues in the 2002 draft budget only by 26 million Lari (approximately $12 million). State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze stated at the meeting with the MPs on January 16 that the further increase of revenues will cause budgetary shortfall by the end of the year.

The Citizens Union of Georgia faction demands to increase revenues by 140 million Lari. All the factions, except the New Right Wing faction, agree with the CUG position and intend to reject proposed draft budget.

The Parliament is to discuss draft of the 2002 budget late on January 16.
