Georgian Army on High Military Alert

Georgian armed forces are on high military alert concerning dispatching of Russian troops to Kodori gorge, the only part of breakaway Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze stated at the session today that President Shevardnadze ordered Defense Ministry to act in accordance to the existing situation.

8 helicopters dispatched Russian peacekeepers to Kodori gorge this morning without informing Georgian authorities.

Georgian Parliament considers the Russian move an open aggression against Georgia.

Parliament intends to adopt a special statement concerning the incident.
