Russian Envoy for Abkhazian Conflict Settlement Visits Georgia
(Tbilisi, May 23, Civil Georgia) – Russian Presidential envoy for the Abkhazian conflict settlement, Deputy Foreign Minister Valeri Loshchinin visits Georgia on May 23-24.
Russian official will discuss with the Georgian authorities situation in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone.
Issue of the mandate of the Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in the conflict zone under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States [CIS], will be discussed as well.
Georgian side demands changes in the mandate of the peacekeepers and redeployment of troops deeper into the breakaway Abkhazian territory, Gali district.
Valeri Loshchinin will meet Georgian President Shevardnadze, Special Affairs Minister Malkhaz Kakabadze and other officials.
Meeting with his Georgian counterpart, Shevardnadze’s personal representative for the Abkhazian conflict settlement, Aslan Abashidze is not scheduled.
