President not to Chair CUG
(Tbilisi, June 17, Civil Georgia) – Shevardnadze said that he would stay in Citizens’ Union of Georgia (CUG) as a common member of the party that means that the President does not intend to return on the post of the party’s chairman.
“I cannot ignore the great services it [CUG] has done to our country. It was the guarantee of stability in Georgian for years”, President Shevardnadze stated in his radio interview today.
According to the unofficial information the State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze will take the chairman’s post.
The CUG had been the ruling party in the Parliament. It broke into six parts right after the President left the post of the chairman last September. At the moment pro-Presidential group controls the party.
