IDPs Demand Abkhazia Status Determination
(Tbilisi, June 20, Civil Georgia) – IDPs from Abkhazia are rallying in front of the Parliament, demanding to determine the status of Abkhazia within the framework of the Georgian constitution.
Protesters say they would demand president’s resignation if the problem is not resolved.
IDPs also demand withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers from the conflict zone.
Currently, Georgian consitution omits any provision on territorial setup of the country. It is stipulated that it is to be determined by a separate law “after Georgia’s terrirorial integrity is resored.”
IDP rally is organized by the Abkhazia government-in-exile.
