Second Phase of Military Maneuvers Near Pankisi

(Tbilisi, September 3, 2002, Civil Georgia) – The second phase of military exercises Kakheti – 2002 launched near Pankisi gorge on September 2. Troops train in firing of anti-tank missiles and machine guns as well.

Up to 1500 officers and soldiers participate in the large-scale military exercises Kakheti – 2002, which started on August 25. The exercises run in parallel with the anti-criminal operations in Pankisi.

According to the Georgian Defense Ministry the open exercises in firing are scheduled for the local population as well.
