NATO Exercises at the Black Sea

(Tbilisi, September 9, 2002 Civil Georgia) – Turkish, Georgian, Bulgarian and Romanian joint navy exercises “Black Sea – 2002” in the frames of NATO Partnership for Peace Program started in Istanbul today.

Georgian defense forces’ patrol ship “Kutaisi” and its 26-member crew participates in the drills, Georgian Defense Ministry reports. Turkey , Bulgaria, Romania participate in the navy exercises together with Georgia.

The training aims at supporting peace in the region and trains the navy at holding peace support and humanitarian aid operations.

Turkey hosts the program from the fifth time. Exercises “Black Sea- 2002” will last till September 15.
