Shevardnadze Says Right Time to Bid for NATO Accession

(Tbilisi, November 18, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President confirmed at the briefing, as well as in his radiobroadcast today that he would make an official bid for NATO accession at the summit in Prague in November.

?The most of the politicians, as well as the population support the idea of accession in NATO. It is right time to make a first step toward NATO,? Shevardnadze said.

Georgian President said there are no other organizations, but NATO, which would really protect its member states? sovereignty.

Eduard Shevardnadze said that Georgia is also ready to cooperate with other regional organizations, including Commonwealth of Independent States.
