Longest Painted Wall in Eastern Europe is Opened in Tbilisi
(Tbilisi, November 21, Civil Georgia) – Residents of Tbilisi together with famous painters, artists, singers and politicians attended the opening of the longest painted wall in Eastern Europe in Chikovani (Former Khiliani) street, Tbilisi.
The idea of the project derives from the company “Arsi” that initiated the plan as one of the supporting campaigns for the program “Save the Capital” aiming to prevent further maiming of Tbilisi.
The wall is located on the whole length of the blocks of apartments and is 300 meters in length. It required the work of 40 State Art Academy students during 40 days and 2 tones of different color paints in order to be presented today.
State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and Minister of Culture Sesili Gogiberidze were among the guest who enjoyed the ceremony and expressed their pleasure to attend this important and beautiful event.
Famous artist Gia Bugadze painted the initial small version of the wall and presented to the studetns of the State Art Academy, who later painted the preserved idea with their own interpretation on the raw concrete.
“It was hard to work on the concrete”- Lasha, one of the artists says. “Besides we were not sure that painting would resist the rain”. But as it proved the rain was useless to destroy new work of art.
“This is a colored wall in a colored part of the city,” said Gia Bugadze on the opening of the wall. Students of State Art Academy also called the painting “talent against the violence”.
The whole opening ceremony took the place on the background of Nike Memanishvili classical music, however the guests could enjoy rock and pop bands as well. Interested citizens were also able to purchase the books of the modern writers.
