Prosecutor General Decides to Extradite Three Chechens

(Tbilisi, November 29, 2002, Civil Georgia) Prosecutor General of Georgia Nugzar Gabrichidze decided to extradite to Russia three Chechens, out of eight, arrested by Georgian border guards in August near the Russian border – Civil Georgia was told by the PR department of the Procuracy of Georgia.

President Shevardnadze has promised Russian president Vladimir Putin to extradite these eight Chechens at the CIS Summit in Chisineau on October 6.

The decision of the Prosecutor General will be informed to the arrested Chechens today. They have a right to appeal the decision at a court.

On November 26 the European Court of Human Rights lifted its moratorium on extradition of these prisoners to Russia, imposed a month earlier.
