CUG Wants to Impeach Opposition Vice-Speakers

(Tbilisi, December 17, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Pro-Presidential Citizens’ Union of Georgia Parliamentary faction intends to dismiss two vice-speakers of the Parliament, members of the opposition United Democrats faction.

Gigi Tsereteli and Eldar Shengelaia were elected on the posts of the vice-speakers from the CUG faction, which consisted the Parliamentary majority.

But after the collapse of the largest Parliamentary faction last year both Tsereteli and Shengelaia left the CUG and become the United Democrats faction members.

Now CUG has no vice-speaker. At the moment CUG started the collection of the MPs signatures to launch the procedure of the impeachment. 118 MPs’ votes are necessary to dismiss two vice-speakers.
