Georgia Denies Chechens Anticipated Incursion into Russia
(Tbilisi, December 17, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Georgia Border Guard Department denied today reports that up to 40 Chechen militants intend to penetrate Russia’s Ingush Republic from Georgia.
Russian media sources reported today that members of the Chechen armed group, led by the warlord Ruslan Gelaev prepare for attacks in Ingushetia.
Georgian Border Guard Department reports neither OSCE border observers, monitoring the Ingush section of the Georgian-Russian border, nor Russian border guards informed the Georgian side concerning the possible incursion.
Georgian authorities categorically deny presence of the Chechen militants in Georgia.
