Shevardnadze Says Relations Improved with Russia

(Tbilisi, December 30, 2002. Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze believes that 2002 witnessed “a perceptible improvement of relations between Georgia and Russia.”

Speaking at the briefing today Georgian President said that the relations improved especially after his meeting with President Putin in Chisinau, Moldova on October 6.

“The meeting has changed much in relations between the two countries,” Shevardnadze said.

Chisenau meeting was held after the month of Putin’s threat to carry out pre-emptive strikes against the terrorists’ bases in Georgia’s Pankisi gorge.
