IDPs Demand Closure of Railway Route Between Russia and Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, January 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – IDPs from Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia started protest rally today demanding closure of the railway route between Russia and Abkhazia, which was resumed on December 25.

IDPs hold the protest rally near Enguri river, which is the administrative border between Abkhazia and the rest of the Georgia.

Protesters also demand return of the IDPs to their homes in Abkhazia and withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping troops from the conflict zone.
