Russia Forms Special Units to Reinforce Border With Georgia
(Tbilisi, January 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian special task force units will control the Chechnya section of the Russian-Georgian border, Russian media sources report quoting officials of the Russian Border Guard Department.
The Russian Border Guard Department reported that the Chechnya section of the border and the adjacent areas remain the most troubled zones of the Russian-Georgian border.
In October at a meeting in Yerevan on the sidelines of the CIS border-guard commanders’ meeting, the commanders of the Russian and Georgian Guard Departments signed a protocol on cooperation, including information sharing and conducting patrols of the two countries’ common border.
