CUG Wants to Dismiss Election Commission
(Tbilisi, January 8, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The pro-Presidential party Citizens Union of Georgia (CUG) proposed to change the composition of the Central Election Commission (CUG), which is the main body, which is responsible for the management of the elections.
MP Irakli Gogava of the CUG told Civil Georgia today “existing CEC is not guarantee of the conducting of the fair and democratic Parliamentary election,” which will be held this year.
CUG proposes to compose the CEC with 10 persons, which would be proposed by the President, Parliament and the Supreme Court.
“We believe that the CEC members should be the members of the political parties,” Gogava said. At the moment the representatives of the political parties compose the CEC.
