Mamaladze Resigns to Run for MP
Levan Mamaladze resigned from the post of the governor of Kvemo Kartli region on September 17 to run for MP from the presidential-backed election bloc For New Georgia.
Mamaladze, an old rival to Zurab Zhvania, former parliamentary chairman, is one of the most influential political figures. He was the president?s representative to the Kvemo Kartli region, which is predominately populated by the ethnic Azeris, for last nine years.
It is anticipated that Mamaladze will be in the top of the list of MP candidates proposed by the pro-presidential election bloc For New Georgia.
Zurab Kobiashvili, aide to Levan Mamaladze, was appointed as President?s new representative to the Kvemo Kartli region.
