Protesters Met Russian Ambassador

(Tbilisi, January 21, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Representatives of the IDPs from Abkhazia protesting in front of the Russian embassy in Tbilisi met with the Russian ambassador in Georgia Vladimir Chkhikvishvili on January 21.

Protesters at the Russian embassy demand closure of the railway connection between Russia and Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia and to stop issue Russian passports to the population living in Abkhazia.

The protest rally is being held since January 16. Five IDPs started hunger strike in front of the embassy insisting on implementation their demands.

The protest rally of IDPs from Abkhazia with the same demands is held at river Enguri, administrative border between breakaway Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia, as well.
