Prison Riot Leaves up to 60 Inmates Injured
(Tbilisi, January 27, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian Justice Ministry reports that riot in Tbilisi preliminary detention facility left up to 60 inmates injured. At least five of them are in emergency care unit.
The riot started as the special unit of the Ministry of Justice conducted a surprise search, confiscating, according to the Ministry statement, assault rifles, knifes and other prohibited items. At least three policemen were injured in clashes.
