PACE Discusses Situation in Pankisi

(Tbilisi, January 27, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) winter session, which is held in Strasburg on January 27-31 will discuss situation in Georgia?s Pankisi gorge.

PACE will listen to the report on the fact-finding mission to Moscow, Tbilisi and the Pankisi gorge, by the Ad Hoc Committee of the Bureau on the situation in Georgia.

?Judging from what the ad hoc committee was able to see during its visit and following numerous meetings, the situation near the eastern border region between Georgia and Russia, commonly known as the Pankisi Valley, has improved and the greater control by the Georgian security forces is apparent,? the report reads.

The members of the Ad Hoc Committee paid visit to Moscow, Tbilisi and Pankisi gorge on October 28-November 2, on the background of the extremely tensed Russo-Georgian relations over situation in Pankisi.
