Alleged Chechen Militants’ Trail Postponed

(Tbilisi, January 30, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Trail of three alleged Chechen militants detained in Georgia last August and wanted by Russia was postponed today in Tbilisi district court because of anonymous phone call, which said there was a bomb in the court’s building.

A group of experts from the Interior Ministry could not find explosives in the building.

The lawyers of the Chechens protest against the Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office decision on extradition of these three Chechens to the Russian side.

The Supreme Court ruled positively last December on lawyers’ appeal and returned the case to the district court for reconsideration.
