Georgians in US Hold Protest Rally Against Russia’s Moves in Abkhazia
(Tbilisi, January 31, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Representatives of the Georgian community in the Unites States hold the protest rally at the UN Headquarters in New York on January 31 protesting against Russia’s unilateral decisions to reopen the railway link with Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia and granting Russian citizenship to the population living in Abkhazia.
The appeal of the rally’s organizers to the Georgian community in the US reads “We have an official permission from the New York Mayor’s Office to conduct a peaceful rally in support of Georgia”.
“Georgian immigrants from a number of states as well as a Georgian folk music band consisting of American singers will be attending,” the appeal reads.
