Minister Says Attack on New Rights Office Caused by the Disagreement within Party

(Tbilisi February 12, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili reported today to the MPs regarding the investigation of violent attack against the opposition New Rights Party’s office in Tbilisi on February 3, when up to 20 armed men raided the opposition party’s headquarters.

Opposition blames authorities in organization of the violent raid. Koba Narchemashvili said that investigation could not prove involvement of the officials in the attack. He said that according to the preliminary information the incident was caused with the disagreements within the party.

“All the attacker suspects detained by the law enforcers are the members of the New Rights Party,” Koba Narchemashvili said.
