Shevardnadze Says New Phase of Russo-Georgian Relations Started
(Tbilisi. March 10, 2003. Civil Georgia) – In his Monday radiobroadcast on March 10 President Shevardnadze said that his meeting with Russian President Putin was the launch of ?a new phase in Russo-Georgian relations.?
?I did not expect a significant success from these talks, but negotiations turned to be very positive,? Eduard Shevardnadze said.
He also stated that the resumption of railway link between Russia and Georgia via breakaway Abkhazia is very important for the both states. ?We agreed that the process should be synchronized with the return of IDPs in Abkhazia,? Georgian President added.
Two presidents agreed during the meeting in Russia?s Black Sea resort Sochi on March 6-7 that the joint commission will be created, which will work over these issues.
