MPs Discuss Legality of Law on Minimal Salary
(Tbilisi. March 13, 2003. Civil Georgia) – At the Parliamentary session today Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedures reported to the MPs ruling of the Committee regarding the legitimacy of adoption of the law on increase of the minimal salary, approved by the Parliament on February 28.
The Committee ruled on March 7 meeting that the law on increase of the minimal salary to 115 Lari (USD 52.9) per month, elaborated by the opposition United Democrats Party, was adopted with the procedural violations, thus should be proclaimed as invalid.
The opposition Parliamentary factions protest against the Committee?s ruling. The government opposes implementation of the law claiming it would lead to the inflation.
The voting regarding the issue is scheduled for today.
