Election of Tbilisi University Rector Causes Students’ Protest

(Tbilisi. April 21, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The part of students of Tbilisi State University (TSU) intends to appeal the court, claiming election TSU Rector Roin Metreveli held on April 21 is illegal.

The students, protesting against Metreveli’s election, say that Metreveli illegally amended the Charter of TSU, which enabled him to run for third time on the post of the Rector. Metreveli was the only candidature on the post.

The part of students accuse Metreveli in authoritarian style of governance and in corruption. “We are against Soviet-style governance and governors in the University,” the appeal of one part of students to the lectors of the University reads.
