Shevardnadze Rejects Claims on Dictatorship Threat

(Tbilisi. April 24, 2003. Civil Georgia) – ?There is no threat to democracy in Georgia,? President Shevardnadze said on April 23 at the news briefing in Kiev, Ukraine.

?Everything may come to Georgia but only not dictatorship,? Eduard Shevardnadze said, while commenting Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze?s statement that ?undemocratic steps taken by the Presidential-backed election alliance would lead to the dictatorship.?

On April 21 Nino Burjanadze expressed his concerns with the pre-election policy of the government and the Presidential-backed election Alliance for New Georgia.

?With its actions, the government ignores the public opinion, leaving an impression that we are still in the single-party system,? she said.
