Georgia Confirms Some Terrorist Suspects Might Remain in Pankisi

(Tbilisi. April 25, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Security Ministry confirmed today that couple of “notorious terrorist suspects might be still hiding in Pankisi gorge.”


Speaking at the conference where the representatives of the security services of up to 40 states participated said “Achimez Gochiaev, suspected in explosions of the apartment buildings in Moscow in 1999 might be in Pankisi at the moment.”


He said Georgian and Russian security services cooperate in fight against terrorism.


Georgian authorities say that there are no large groups of Chechen fighters and foreign mercenaries in Pankisi, which left the gorge after the anti-crime operation, held in Pankisi last year.
