Confrontation in the Parliament Ends with Fist Fighting

(Tbilisi. May 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Confrontation between the Socialist and United Democrats factions during today’s Parliament Bureau meeting ended with fist fighting.

The Socialists leader Vakhtang Rcheulishvili and representative of the United Democrats Zaza Sherazadashvili insulted each other physically. During the incident Rcheulishvili injured his head and Sherazadashvili has his veins cut.

Incident has taken place after Rcheulishvili’s had wrangle with representatives of United Democrats. After that participants of quarrel have moved in other cabinet, where, as the Civil Georgia’s correspondent reports, the situation was heated more.

Currently the both are hospitalized, but the sides continue clashing.

Tensions between the two political groups have gone up after Rcheulishvili’s public statement at the Young Socialist’s recent summit, in which he openly insulted leaders of the United Democrats.
