Georgian Population of the Gali District Demands Stronger Security Measures

(Tbilisi. May 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian population of the Gali district demand better measures for their security” – Badri Dgebuadze, chief of Gali District Security Service (in exile) told Rustavi 2 TV.

He explained that the local residents fear retaliatory raids of the separatist forces. The tensions in the district have increased after the armed clash between unidentified groups on the border between Tagiloni and Chuburkhinji villages two days earlier. Ruslan Khashba, head of the customs checkpoint of the separatist regime, died in Sukhumi hospital,because of wounds received during the clash.

The separatist side is blaming Georgian partisans for the incident, calling it a diversion.
