Adjara Refuses to Transfer Funds to the Central Budget
(Tbilisi, May 19, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Leadership of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic keeps refusing to transfer funds to the central budget. Leader of the autonomous republic Aslan Abashidze says that one of the reasons of the refusal is the failure of the central government to make scheduled transfer to the region. As he said Adjara has not yet received its own 180 million Laris from the central budget.
State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze visited the autonomous republic to discuss the matter, however an agreement could not be reached. Jorbenadze said that negotiations with the Adjarian side will continue.
