Kidnapped Businessperson Freed
(Tbilisi, June 2, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Businessman Gogi Pilpani, which was abducted on May 11 in western mountainous region of Svaneti, was freed today.
Gogi Pilpani told Civil Georgia today that he was freed as a result of the negotiations between the kidnappers and Pilpani’s relatives and friends.
“Kidnappers demanded USD 40.000, but we paid no money,” Gogi Pilpani said.
Businessman also said that the police have nothing common with his release. “I have not even informed the law enforcers regarding my release, thus kidnappers are not arrested,” Pilpani added.
Pilpani said that the kidnappers held him in Svaneti region, near the breakaway Abkhazia.
