Pro-Governmental Faction Offer Consultations to Overcome Deadlock

(Tbilisi, June 3, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Pro-governmental factions offer opposition to hold consultation regarding the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Opposition Parliamentary factions demand to vote regarding disbanding of the existing CEC and rejects to hold consultations.

Last week the pro-governmental faction voted against disbanding of the CEC.

Opposition says that the consultations were held on June 2 with the State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze failing to reach any agreement, thus there is no need for further talks with the government.

Meanwhile the protest rally organized by the opposition is held in front of the Parliament demanding disband of the CEC.
