German, Danish UN Observers and Interpreter Abducted in Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, June 5 2003, Civil Georgia) – Tamaz Nadareishvili, Head of the Tbilisi-based Abkhaz government in exile says that two citizens of Germany, one citizen of Denmark and one Georgian interpreter are abducted today in Kodori gorge of Georgia?s breakaway Abkhazia.

The group of UN observers? mission confirmed the report, however refrains from naming the nationalities of the abducted observers.

The group of UN observers? mission, accompanied with the Russian peacekeepers, was conducting patrol of Kodori gorge.

Georgian authorities claim the incident aims at destabilization of the situation in the troubled gorge, which is the flashpoint the in the breakaway region of Abkhazia.
