Sokhumi Denies Agreement with Tbilisi Over Joint Checkpoints in Kodori

(Tbilisi, June 19 2003, Civil Georgia) – Abkhaz side denied that the agreement had been reached with the Georgian side over establishment of the joint checkpoints in Kodori gorge to ensure security in the troubled gorge.

?There was no proposal from the Georgian side regarding the joint checkpoints. This is not true,? Alexander Studenikin, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the unrecognized Abkhaz Republic told Civil Georgia today. 

Russian media sources reported on June 18 quoting Georgian President?s envoy in Kodori gorge Emzar Kvitsiani, that the sides agreed to set up Abkhaz-Georgian checkpoints in Kodori, which is the only part of breakaway Abkhazia under the Georgian control.
