MoD Demands Funds from Finance Ministry

(Tbilisi, July 3, 2003, Civil Georgia) – According to the Georgian Ministry of Defense (MoD) Finance Ministry refuses to transfer 12.6 million Lari (USD 5.9 million) to the MoD, due to the budgetary shortfall.

Col. Alexander Mchedlishvili of the MoD said at the news briefing today that the lack of funding threatens country?s security.

?It was shameful when the officials of the Finance Ministry told us to be grateful for the money we have already received,? Col. Mchedlishvili said.
