Former Paramilitary Leader Pardoned in Georgia Arrested in Israel

(Tbilisi, July 4, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Security Ministry confirmed today that one of the leaders of the former paramilitary group Mkhedrioni Giga Gelashvili was detained in Israel on June 20.

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronot  reports that Gelashvili was arrested for violating visa regime.
 
Giga Gelashvili was convicted in 1995 for a terrorist attack against President Shevardnadze and pardoned in 2002.
