James Baker Arrived in Georgia
(Tbilisi, July 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Former US Secretary of State James Baker arrived this morning in Tbilisi to discuss with the Georgian authorities upcoming Parliamentary elections.
The US embassy in Georgia reported that James Baker will hold meetings with President Shevardnadze and leaders of the leading political parties today.
The White House said in a news release on July 3 ?Bakers mission?s primary objective will be to discuss with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze ways to advance political and economic reform in Georgia through free and fair Parliamentary elections this fall.?
Baker will also discuss US-Georgian cooperation on counterterrorism and other security matters.
