New Chairman of CEC Elected

(Tbilisi, July 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) today elected former Deputy Chairman of the CEC Gia Zesashvili on the post of the Chairman of the commission.

Former Chairman of the CEC Jumber Lominadze quitted the post last month, together with several other members of the CEC after the opposition?s protest rally in Tbilisi.

Only representatives of the pro-Presidential political parties remain in the CEC. The opposition demands to disband the current CEC and adoption of the new election code.
