Georgian Court Acquitted Two Chechens

(Tbilisi, July 18, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Tbilisi District Court acquitted two Chechens Aslan Khanchukaev and Adlen Magomedov, charged by the Georgian law enforcers for illegal crossing the border and carrying weapons.

However they will remain imprisoned, since they are accused of organizing disorders in the jail on October 4, 2002.

Khanchukaev and Magomedov were arrested by Georgian border guards last August, together with other 11 armed men. 5 of them were extradited to Russia immediately. Others avoided extradition as two were Georgian citizens and three had a refugee status issued by the Georgian Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation.

The trial of one more Chechen, which is also accused for illegal crossing the border and carrying the weapons, is scheduled for July 24.
