Kmara Activists File Lawsuit Against Borjomi Authorities

(Tbilisi, July 22, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The activists of the Kmara (Enough) youth movement appealed the General Prosecutor’s Office to bring an action against the local authorities of southern city of Borjomi for disbanding their meetings on July 4-5. 

The members of the Kmara youth movement held a protest rally in front of the building of the Prosecutor’s Office on July 22. They urged fair investigation of the case.

On July 5 Borjomi residents blocked the entrance of the city and did not let the Kmara activists to enter into Borjomi, where the youth movement members intended to hold a rally to protest against disbanding of the meeting in Borjomi on July 4.

Kmara activists claimed that the local authorities mobilized their supporters to prevent the protest rally in Borjomi. They also said that the police did nothing to ensure free movement of the Kmara members.
