Head of OSCE Mission, President Discussed CEC

(Tbilisi, July 24, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The new election code adopted by the Georgian Parliament on July 24 was discussed during the meeting of Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze with Head of the OSCE Mission to Georgia Jean-Michel Lacombe in the State Chancellery today.

Under the US-suggested election guidelines, delivered to Georgia by the former US Secretary of State James Baker, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) will be nominated by the OSCE.

Chairman of the CEC Gia Zesashvili said the OSCE is !
ready to give recommendations about appointment of the CEC chairman, however the details of this process will be defined by the Election Code.
