Russia to Assess Abkhaz Railway
(Tbilisi, August 7, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Russian governmental working group on restoration of the Russian-Georgian railway link via Abkhazia agreed today to assess the Abkhaz section of the railway, Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
Georgian and Russian Presidents agreed on March 7 in Sochi to set up working groups on restoration of the railway link, return of IDPs in Abkhazia and rehabilitation of the power facilities in the breakaway region.
Georgian authorities say they will agree on restoration of the railway connection via Abkhazia only in case of start of safe return of IDPs in Abkhazia.
