Opposition Demands Government’s Resignation
(Tbilisi, August 21, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The United Democrat parliamentary faction demanded today the resignation of the entire government for its failure to meet the 2003 budgetary targets.
MP Mikheil Machavariani of the United Democrats says the faction will support cutting budgetary expenditures only if the entire government, including State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze, resigns.
“You [the government] need to meet IMF recommendations only to keep your posts,” Machavariani said, while expressing his point of view regarding the budgetary amendments, which aim at closing the fiscal ga!

The New Rights and Traditionalist opposition factions, as well as the chairmen of the Parliamentary committees for Tax Revenues and Defense and Security also demanded that the government resign.
