BLACKSEAFOR Naval Exercises Held in Georgia

(Tbilisi, August 29, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Navy vessels from six Black Sea countries (Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine) arrived in Georgia on August 28 to participate in the Black Sea Force-2003 international naval exercises in the western Georgian town of Poti.

First Deputy Commander of the Georgian Navy Zaza Erkvania will head the United Staff of Exercises.

The Navies of the six countries will develop joint actions for implementating anti-terrorist and peacekeeping operations in the Black Sea.!

In 1998 Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine initiated The Black Sea Naval Co-Operation Task Group ? BLACKSEAFOR, with the purpose of enhancing peace and stability in the Black Sea region.
