Sabotage on Power Line Blacks out Most of Georgia

(Tbilisi, September 3, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Energy Minister Mamuka Nikolaishvili said at a news briefing today that “the high voltage power line Imereti was damaged as a result of sabotage.”

The Imereti power line supplies eastern Georgia with electricity, thus as a result of the damage, all of eastern Georgia, including the capital city of Tbilisi, was blacked out.

Mamuka Nikolaishvili did not specify the details of the incident.
This is the second case of damage to the Imereti power line. In late August, unknown persons damaged the power line with a gunshot.
