International Donors Assist to Computerize Voter Lists
(Tbilisi, September 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Georgian experts with the assistance of the International Fund for Election Systems (IFES) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), are displaying voter registry lists on the Internet.
Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Nana Devdariani attended the process today.
Inaccurate and opaque voter registry lists during the previous elections were one of the sources of fraud.
She said the upcoming election will differ from previous one, because now each citize!
n will be able to read his/her name on the Internet.
“We will do our best to hold fair and democratic elections. I myself will do everything to secure free and fair elections,” Nana Devdariani told Civil Georgia.
The process of double-check of the voter registry list, developed by the Interior Ministry, is also held.
Davit Kipiani of the IFES, said the lists submitted by the Interior Ministry include 2 147 306 voters, while under the data of the Justice Ministry, 328 820 voters out of them are dead.
